Houston, we have a problem

Unfortunately the Craigslist Miata is experiencing some serious technical difficulties. The evening after getting the PS hose replaced I did a u-turn and as I applied power it felt like something in the rear was binding and then the back end skipped out slightly and there was a slight pop. I imagine it was like if you had a fully locked diff.

Two week and a bit of traveling later, I was making a left across two lanes in the Craigslist Miata and then all of a sudden a big skip and a loud bang and “bong” sound (I had a VW Golf w/ the wrong spring/perch combination and the springs would reseat themselves in the upper strut bearing when you would go from lock to lock, it sounded a lot like that). Like a responsible owner I took the car into the shop and they said to come back on Friday, as I pulled the car out into the street there was a medium level bind skip and pop sequence. Closer to out final destination I was forced to make a u turn and that is when it all when to $#!*. Constant grinding noise and it feels like the car is being tugged at from behind, even when going in a straight line. Whereas the problems were only when turning before.

Pulling it out into the street just to put it up on the truck made my rear end pucker, with the slightest of grinding noises being made. Thank goodness for flatbeds.

Pixel Car Racer is Awesome

Just downloaded Pixel Car Racer and can’t put it down. Turbos, rims and Rocket Bunny kits galore! Currently all you can do is race against the computer, but a few locked features (including Togue mode) promise to take the Super Mario-like experience to a whole other level a la Drift Stage minus the Miami Vice color scheme. However the 8-bit look adds a certain charm to the look and feel of the game as you can modify almost every aesthetic as well as performance characteristic of your car. Go try it now before they try and charge you.

Mazda Miatas Hit the High Banks of #FDSEA

Mad Mike’s RadBull is based of the Mazda Miata and is powered by a four rotor-twin turbocharged monster of a motor that gladly spits flames as he flies around the track. Kyle Mohan and the MazdaTrix MX-5 may be down one rotor, but equally rips around the banks of Evergreen Speedway in Monroe Washington outside of Seattle. Enjoy the sights and sounds from the grid at Formula Drift Seattle with this quick little walkaround video of the Red Bull sponsored machine, just make sure you turn your speakers way up.

Can cars be friends?

The white Miata you see here belongs to a guy named Joey. Joey is an excellent mechanic at one of my favorite garages in all of Orange County. What is nice about a mechanic that drives the same car as you is that not only are they are more knowledgeable than the next guy, but they are often enthusiastic to work on your car. This is either because they have already done the job, or will eventually have to do it for themselves. Joey has always been a fountain of knowledge when it comes to keeping the Craigslist Miata going, and he is also a nice guy to talk to. With all that he has helped out with I consider him a friend, and I hope that our cars can be too.

May the Power of Steering be With You

When I bought this car off of Craigslist, it leaked oil and power steering fluid. After losing the engine, Hiro’s got me going again and we were only gushing the hydraulic fluid at low speed when going from lock to lock (sounds a lot like parallel parking) with all the dinosaur juice safely still inside. After today, neither.
